The bronze tablet commemorates an aircrew of the 753rd Squadron, 458th Bomb Group, 2nd Bombardment Division USAAF, who on 24 November 1944 lost their lives when their aircraft struck the tower of St Philip's church and the pilot, 2/Lt Ralph H Dooley, as his last act avoided crashing on this and surrounding cottages, thus preventing the possible loss of civilian lives.
