Salford Central Police Station opened in 1957 and in 1974 operated as GMP Salford Division HQ until its closure in 2005. It was due to be demolished in 2011. but Salford City Council squashed the plan. In 2015 students from the University of Salford gave the front of the building a makeover by installing artworks in the boarded up windows https://confidentials.com/manchester/art-makeover-for-former-salford-police-station In 2017 plans to turn it into apartments were rejected by the council. Its future remains uncertain.
