The building depicted here is called 'Woodlands' and was formerly known as 'Woodlands House' and 'Woodlands Hospital' and started its life as a nurses' home, built in 1903 > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5827557. To begin with, it formed part of the Norwich (Bowthorpe) Workhouse. The nurses' home and the adjacent three-storey infirmary dating from 1939 survived the Baedeker raid on 29/30 April 1942 which destroyed the adjacent buildings, killing ten patients during frantic efforts to evacuate them. The hospital became the Woodlands Institution and later the West Norfolk Hospital.
