One of several disused quarries in the area. The adjacent Bankhead Quarry is documented in the OS Name Book volume 30 as a limestone quarry to supply lime to farmers to improve their land - see https://scotlandsplaces.gov.uk/digital-volumes/ordnance-survey-name-books/peeblesshire-os-name-books-1856-1858/peeblesshire-volume-30?display=transcription.
