You do not have to wait for an invitation from Gordon Brown to walk across the driveway to Chequers. The Ridgeway National Trail crosses it just inside the gates, giving access for the public to this little piece of hallowed ground. Security cameras monitor your very move, and there are a couple of middle aged ladies walking their labradors, that look like MI5 agents.
