From 1660 Acton Burnell Hall was the home of the Smythes, today the house is a private school, Concord College. In 1731, the house was extended and then further enlaged in 1753-8 by William Baker. In 1814 the main building was given new facades by John Tasker. On the night of the 14/15 April 1914 the house was completely destroyed by fire, leaving just a shell. The house today largely dates from 1915 though the portico and the shell probably date from before this time. The land in the foreground is a large sports field and appears to have been laid in recent years, as recently as 2010 it was farmland, see: Image]
