Arranged in a roughly triangular shape along Cozens and Hardy roads, with a common drying area at the centre, the Grade 2 listed terraces called Railway Cottages form a unique group of planned housing, built in 1847 by the architects Grissell and Peto (builders/architects of the Norfolk Railway Company) for railway workers. The cottages, some of which are situated beside the railway line, were built from red brick (some are now colour-washed) and have hipped slate roofs and yellow brick chimney stacks.
