Copperhouse Canal

This is the remains of a canal dug along the southern side of Copperhouse Creek in the latter half of the 18th century. Its original purpose was to get ships carrying coal from South Wales to the smelting works of the Cornwall Copper Company which operated between 1758 and 1819. The works themselves were just a little further up the canal on a site now occupied by a Co-op Supermarket.
