The plaque https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5778140 on the stone wall alongside the steps records that this was the site of the Coach & Horses Inn where John Frost and other Chartist leaders met to plan the historic march on Newport on November 3rd 1839 to demand the People's Charter. The plaque was erected in 1989 by Oakdale National Union of Miners Lodge and Islwyn Borough Council to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Chartism.
