The GWR built over 800 "modern" highly successful pannier tanks from 1929. The 57XX class were originally conceived as shunting locomotives, but use spread rapidly to general goods and some passenger working. The 8750 class engine seen here was a moderate development of the 57XX, the main visual difference being a more roomy cab. It is seen in post-war black, rather than the usual Brunswick Green.
