Hotel in The Square, built around 1760 following the opening in 1855 of Kelso Bridge over the River Tweed, leading to Kelso serving as an overnight stop on the Newcastle to Edinburgh route. It was heightened and refronted 1879. The building is designated Category B - see http://portal.historicenvironment.scot/designation/LB35842.
