Dam, Hallington Reservoir West

Constructed in 1887 by the Newcastle and Gateshead Water Company. Most reservoirs occupy a valley with a dam blocking the downhill side. Remarkably this reservoir is built on a slope - dam walls constitutes almost the whole of the southern and eastern shores and much of the western shore. The crest of the dam is crowned with gabions.
