Owing to industrial action, the Royal Mail all but came to a standstill over the first weekend of October 2007. Two 48-hour strikes, one on the Thursday-Saturday and one Monday-Wednesday, meant that the Royal Mail could not guarantee collections from the majority of its postboxes, certainly in this area. The notice states, "Please do not post in this box. We cannot guarantee a collection from 4th October to 9th October inclusive. Please take your mail to the nearest post office." and covers the regular collection times, though not covering the slot.
