The former Carrow School

This former school was built in 1864 by Colman’s for the children of their employees. Built in 1864, a second building was constructed in 1872 and an extension added in 1873. The buildings are good examples of 19th century school architecture. One of the buildings is constructed in high quality knapped flint, in keeping with the vernacular tradition, with interesting decorative detailing, and both have slender glazed bell towers with slate roofs and weather vanes. The Carrow School was passed to the local education authority in 1900 and currently houses offices. One of the buildings has since been converted to office use and the other to residential accommodation known as The Old School House.
