Houses on Dolgarregddu are pressed tightly against the scree-strewn slope of Garreg Ddu. On a fine day it looks almost romantic, but on a grey, wet day it is oppressive. Garreg Ddu is an intrusive mass of rhyolite of Ordovician age.
