Old maps suggest that until 1920 this was farmed countryside. The Great Central Railway sliced through it. By 1935 a map shows the whole area as residential. The parade of shops along Northolt Road appears as an undeveloped plot but is complete on a map of the 1950s and is seen in Image The view is from a Chiltern Railways train about to pass Northolt Park station; the sign at the entrance can be seen lower right.
