The yews have been neatly clipped into shapes that remind me of kettle drums. At the left end of the row is an early 19th century watch house. This was originally equipped with a table, a bible, a snuff mull, pipes and a bowl of whisky. I am sorry to report that bowl of whisky is no longer supplied. Nor are the snuff mull or the pipes; the building is now open for quiet meditation and prayer. (I am tempted to enjoy the idea of the pipes being bagpipes, but I fear they would actually have been tobacco pipes.)
