The former Greater Manchester Police HQ in Irwell Street has been redundant and stood empty since the completion of the new headquarters building in Castlecroft Road on the opposite side of Peel Way. Demolition of the old 1970s concrete building began in 2015 but was halted shortly afterwards, leaving the building in a precarious half-demolished state (Image]). After three years, work to clear the site finally started again in March 2018 and it is hoped that this will be completed by the end of April (http://www.burytimes.co.uk/news/bury_news/16085891.Work_to_demolish_former_police_station_recommences___three_years_after_it_initially_started/ Bury Times).
