The Grand Junction Railway Company was formed in 1832 by the amalgamation of the Birmingham & Liverpool Railway with the Liverpool and Birmingham Railway. This stretch of line between the centre of Brum and Bescot Junction formed part of the original West Coast line, linking London to Lancashire.
