Shown on the 1867 OS Map (but possibly dating from 1634), the Angel Inn was converted to an off-licence by the State Management Scheme on 29 September 1916. Sold as "The Angel Off Sales" in 1973 to S&J Property Investments, Newcastle for £50,000, the old Inn was later demolished and replaced with this modern structure. However, in the middle of the building on the first floor can be seen the original "Angel" pub sign, which has been retained. See also: Image] and Image] .
