At the top of King Street is the Category A listed http://portal.historicenvironment.scot/designation/LB41100 Athenæum. It was built on the site of a meat market in 1816-1817 as a library and meeting house. In 1859 a porch was added. By then it had become a gentleman's club. The statue of William Wallace Image that now stands on the porch was commissioned by Peter Drummond, a seed merchant. In more recent times it was used by Stirling Council to host youth services. In 2009 it was the Buildings at Risk register http://web.archive.org/web/20160531190633/http://www.buildingsatrisk.org.uk:80/details/912497 but now it houses the software engineering company SalesAgility https://salesagility.com/ and risk has been reduced to "low".
