The original Trafford Arms (named after a local landowner) opened in 1886 replacing an adjacent pub called the Nursery Tavern. The building was destroyed in an air raid in 1942 and subsequently reopened in a temporary wooden hut. The modern pub dates from the late 1950s and was for a number of years owned by Watney Mann. Since 1992 it has specialised in serving real ales, described by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) as a 'flagship for real ale in Norwich'.
