After all the sober 18th and 19th century buildings, this Category A Listed architectural extravaganza comes as a refreshing shock. It is by Frederick Thomas Pilkington (1832-1898) who also designed the South Church, just across the River North Esk. Just my luck to arrive there when much of the street elevation was obscured by parked vehicles, including a large bright yellow van.
