Part of the 8 acre Roman Catholic burial ground on a northern side of Rivelin Glen with a view of “The Lodge” situated on the south side of Rivelin Valley Road. The occupants of this house may have some maintenance and security responsibilities associated with the cemetery. The purchase price for the plot - £600 - was assembled through the generosity of four individuals and Government approval for its use as a burial ground was received in August 1862. By the summer of 1863 the work of building the boundary walls and a temporary chapel were complete, the final total for all the work amounting to £1,400.
