The first high-rise flats (11-storey) in the city were designed by Andrew Rankine, the City Architect, and built by Truscon, 1959. Originally Bathurst Street block 2, it was renamed The Lodge during refurbishment works in the 1990s. Dwarfed by the flats, one of the 'iconic' K6 cast-iron telephone kiosks designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott in 1935. The boxes are without the royal crown and are cream-painted, being unique to the former Hull Corporation Telephone Department. Further information: http://www.the-telephone-box.co.uk/kiosks/k6_hull/
