The larger of the two lakes in the park is essentially a reservoir, and shown as such on some old maps. It was probably not intended for water supply, but may have acted as a mill reservoir. It is now mainly a home for water birds: species present on this occasion included white swans, mallard, canada geese, various gulls and coots.
