The small house with the half-hipped roof, just left of centre, is one of the cottages built by the Land Settlement Association on the Abingtons Estate. In the 1930s the Land Settlement Association provided cottages and five-acre smallholdings for unemployed workers and their families, especially people from the North East and Wales, in about twenty villages in England, including the Abingtons, where there were extensive glasshouses. The LSA ceased to exist in 1983 and the land and houses are now privately owned. Many of the distinctive houses have been extended and altered.
