The cinema and the adjacent car park are on a site shown vacant since a map of 1885 – for a market, perhaps. The outline of a building first appears on an OS map of 1938 (previous edition 1927). Ipswich Street climbs, becomes Ipswich Road and descends to the Rattlesden River.
