Grade II Listed houses late 16th or early 17th century. 37 is said to have been the residence of Lady Leake, with whom Queen Henrietta Maria stayed when she was at Newark during the Civil War. The Dendrochronology on 39 showed three phases with timbers felled in 1196-1216, 1505-25 and 1695-1711. Around the 1940s it was W.E. Bush's fishmonger's shop. Boarded up the building was a florists and still shows the markings, Charles I Coffee House that both closed in 2015 when the building was repossessed by its owners. In 2017 there was a planning application for 'Convert ground floor into 2 no. retail units and 1 no. 1 bed apartment. Retail first floor as 2 bed apartment.'
