Coal was mined around Mamble from the middle of the 18th century and much of the output was sold to Herefordshire via the Leominster Canal. Mining declined with the coming of the railway - easy to get high quality Welsh coal then. Mining continued on and off at various sites near the village until 1944. This is one of the many small spoil heaps on the site.
