Work is under way laying a new road on part of the Portland Park site in Ashington. The site was planned to contain a new headquarters for Northumberland County Council. Ground works had started, but a change in the party with most seats within the council after the 2017 local elections lead to a change of heart and the plans were halted. Work is still slowly progressing on the alterations to the local road network and bus station which were part of the plans.
