George Bennie was an inventor ahead of his time. Although a prototype of his railplane was tested above a section of track behind where the plaque is situated, there was not enough interest nor financial backing for it to succeed. The plaque is situated just to the south of Kelvin Timber on Main Street, Milngavie, where the prototype was built [https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5640158]. See [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bennie_Railplane] for more information. There is a model of the railplane in Glasgow Museums' collection [http://collections.glasgowmuseums.com/mwebcgi/mweb?request=record;id=138399;type=101].
