The London & Birmingham Railway opened from Euston to Boxmoor in 1837 and on to Birmingham in 1838. In 1846 it became part of the London & North Western Railway. Suburban trains were diverted from 15th June 1912 to run over the "New Lines", which had just been built between Euston and Watford Junction. The first station here was opened by the London & North Western Railway (L&NWR) on 1st April 1914 to serve the nearby golf course. It was 230 yards further north than the current site and was a wooden two platform structure with a footbridge. This closed on 1st January 1917 and reopened on 5th May 1919 served only by the London Electric Railway (which later became London Underground) trains. L&NWR electric trains were reinstated from 10 July 1922. The original station was closed on 17th November 1952 when the present station opened. London Underground trains served the station until 24th September 1982 when Bakerloo line services were withdrawn. The station is now served by London Overground. The fast lines are beyond the station to the left here. The next station in this direction is Hatch End. This was a very wet evening in December.
