Cast iron post by the A50, in parish of Brereton (Congleton District), Newcastle Road, Brereton Green, among tall flowers by wooden fence, on East side of road. Old acorn open book, erected by the Lawton & Cranage turnpike trust in the 19th century. Inscription reads:- : CHURCH LAWTON / 6½ MILES / NEWCASTLE 13 : : HOLMES CHAPEL / 2 MILES / KNUTSFORD 10 / WARRINGTON 21 / LIVERPOOL 40 : Maker:- : W H SMITH & CO / MAKERS / WHITCHURCH : Grade II listed.
