Cast iron post by the A6, in parish of Stockport (Stockport District), High Lane (West), in angle of road junction, between pavement and hedge, on South side of road. Cast iron CCC1896, erected by the County Council in the 19th century. Inscription reads:- : STOCKPORT / 4¾ MILES / MANCHESTER 11 : : CHESHIRE / 1896 / COUNTY COUNCIL : : DISLEY / 2 MILES / WHALEY BRIDGE 6 / BUXTON 13 : Maker:- : W H SMITH & CO / MAKERS / WHITCHURCH : Grade II listed.
