The red-brick building here is a row of fine 18th century town houses, now partly given over to retail premises of various sorts. They were granted a Grade II listing https://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/101076698-691-697-warwick-road-silhill-ward#.WiW789SLTGg in 1976. It would appear that at least some of the shop-frontages referred to in the listing have been removed in the meantime, restoring the original character of the row. Further investigations reveal that the row was built in 1742 as the Solihull Workhouse, capable of accommodating 60 residents. It was replaced in this respect in the late 1830s by a new, purpose-built Union Workhouse just to the NE of here, but this has since been demolished and now forms the area marked on the map as the modern hospital.
