David Douglas (1799-1834) was born in Scone, and became one of the great early 19th century botanists, travelling the world, and especially America, collecting plants and introducing them to horticulture. He is best known by the Douglas Fir, though his name is not part of its botanical name (Pseudotsuga menziesii), but many other plants bear his name as the second element of their botanical names. The Image] tells more about him.
