The valley floor north of Tywardreath is as much a swamp as it is woodland. There is plenty of water underfoot even after a month without rain. It is not the sort of terrain I would consider venturing into. This photo was taken from the Saints Way footpath which crosses this area on a path raised a little above the swampy valley floor. This is an area of land in transition. It was a tidal creek which, as it silted up, may have hosted salt marsh before scrubland vegetation took hold. As there are disused mines further up the valley it is likely that this activity released a great deal of sediment into the river to accelerate the silting process.
