The whitewashed cottage on the seaward side of Musselburgh Road is the oldest house in Portobello, dating from the 16th century. At this locality were salt pans which produced salt for over 300 years, from 1630 to 1953. Next door is the Rockville Hotel, owned and operated by the Royal British Legion Scotland.
