The kilns were originally part of William Jamieson's brickworks, and later of Buchan's Thistle Pottery which took over the premises. The red one dates from 1906 and the yellow one from 1909. The flats behind were built in 1976, and are concrete proof that it is possible for a council, in this case the City of Edinburgh Architects' Department, to design housing that is pleasing to look at.
