Opened in 1991 as the terminus of a short branch line from the Liverpool Street - Cambridge line, Stansted Airport station is incorporated within the terminal building. The Stansted Express provides fast trains to Liverpool Street and operates in stiff competition with the alternative coach services. There are also through trains to Cambridge and Birmingham.
