This sign shows what is known as a dancing bear, which used to be common in England and elsewhere, particularly in medieval times. They were taken from place to place and exhibited and forced to "dance" with the aim of collecting money for the owner. Unfortunately they are still to be seen in some parts of the world. Since this photograph was taken a few years back the sign has been replaced by a more conventional sign showing a white polar bear. Image
