This is but a small section of the boundary wall that runs for several miles on both the north and south sides of Stalbridge Park. There is some argument as to why or when this wall was built. It may have been built by the Lord of the manor the Earl of Castlehaven as a status symbol, work for French Napoleonic Wars prisoners, or work for local labourers at times of high unemployment. Not surprisingly, due to high maintenance costs, the wall seems to be in a poor state of repair for much of its vast length.
