The view from the viaduct looking north west with the River Esk below heading upstream with the houses of Riverside walk on the left bank. The viaduct is a 13 arch structure, 305 yards long, carrying the dismantled Whitby to Scarborough railway line up to 120 feet high above the river. The line opened in 1885 and closed in 1965 and is now a footpath and cycleway, the Cinder Track. The viaduct is listed, grade II, with brief details at: https://www.historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1366577 The railway line on the right bank is the Esk Valley Line to Middlesbrough via Northern Rail and to Pickering via the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
