Yn 1873 ceir cofnod bod Eglwys Llanllywenfel yn adfeiliedig ac fe adeiladwyd yr adeilad presennol yn 1876. Ar 8ed Ebrill 1749 priododd Sarah Gwynne o Garth House gerllaw Charles Wesley, yr arweinydd Methodist enwog, yn yr hen eglwys gyda'i frawd John Wesley yn chwarae rhan amlwg yn y gwasanaeth. In 1873 Llanlleonfel church was recorded to have been in a ruinous state. The present edifice was built in 1876. On 8th April 1749 Sarah Gwynne of nearby Garth House married Charles Wesley, the famous Methodist leader, at the old church with his brother, John Wesley, taking a leading role in the service.
