Wallgate, Wigan

On the left is the entrance to Wigan North Western Station. The station was opened in 1838 by the North Union Railway who operated between Wigan and Preston. In 1846 it was taken over by the London and North Western Railway who operated though trains from London Euston to Glasgow. The station was renamed Wigan North Western in 1924. Wigan's other station Wigan Wallgate Image is just higher up on the right behind the camera.
