The bridge crosses the railway line, sometimes referred to as the Richmond Curve or the Crowthorn Curve, which leaves the Manchester Victoria to Stalybridge line and curves round bypassing Guide Bridge to join the line through Denton and Reddish South to Stockport. It is now well used as a freight line only.
