St Martin's Kirk was built in the early 12th century. It belonged to the Cistercian nunnery of St Mary's, which was situated about one mile to the east of this site. The church was probably used by both the nuns and the people of Haddington. Originally consisting of a nave and a chancel at the east end, only the nave now remains. Some time after the reformation, the church fell out of use.
