One of the many tropical and sub-tropical species in the care of the University of Bristol's Botanic Gardens, this Stapelia only flowers at certain times. Its particular forte is the striking flower - only about 4cm across but very elaborate. The plant has a strong relationship with flies, which it needs to pollenate. In order to attract them, it produces a rather distinct odour of rotting matter.
