Wenlock Arms

This is the Wenlock Arms in Wenlock Rd located a stone throw from the City Road. A rare survival in central London; a real “Local” and a proper free house to boot. In former times it would have served the stevedores working in the Wenlock basin off the Grand Union Canal, it now has a more diverse clientele. The salt beef sandwiches are world famous in Islington! See http://wenlockarms.com/ 2014 update this gem nearly fell into the hands of property developers when the owners decided to retire. However a campaign by the locals managed to save it. I have not been there since the relaunch (however I do hope they have pensioned off the carpet ;-) )
